McAvoy has completed part A of his FFA A License, and still retains his AFC/FFA advanced B license, and Sports Medicine Certificates 1&2. In addition to being a Peak Performance Coach who has worked with The European Football Institute, he has continued his coach education by helping regional technical director on Skill Acquisition Programs and Game Training course toward his assessor’s certificate. McAvoy has worked with Football Brisbane as an identification Coach for 4 years and has also been endorsed by Football Australia as a Sporting Schools Coach. He has also coached and developed players at Marist Private Boys College in 2016.
McAvoy has worked with coaches at Stoke City and Reading Academies in England and with the Celtic Academy in Scotland. McAvoy has significant experience educating players and budding coaches, and over the past 5 years provided coach education here in Brisbane. Coming from South Australia 10 years ago, where most of his coaching was done in the Adelaide Super League with clubs, Croydon Kings, Port Adelaide FC and Para Hills FC, to name a few. He also was a South Australian Representative Coach in the age groups of U13, U14 and U15’s and picked up the EFI Coaches award in 2000 for coaching the U19 Elite Squad on the Tour of the UK.

McAvoy has overseen the development of young players at Brisbane Premier League Club Taringa Rovers and delivered an excellent Football Development Program in accordance with the FFA curriculum through his New Age Football Academy. His Academy has been represented at a few other clubs across Brisbane over the last 4 years. McAvoy’s passion lies with developing young players to be the very best they can be, and he does this both within club football and his Academy.
Gerry is a very highly regarded and respected coach throughout football in Brisbane and South Australia, and after losing only two games last season in the NPL, will be looking to build on his previous success with Olympic FC.
