Olympic has scored a record nine goals against Taringa Rovers on Sunday afternoon to gain its first points of the 2010 Brisbane Premier League season.

The Olympic faithful that travelled to Jack Speare park saw a stellar performance for their team this afternoon. From the first whistle, the players looked determined to avenge their first round loss to arch rivals Brisbane City.

“We needed to win today to kick start our season”, said a happy Graham Wilson, assistant coach of Olympic’s first team.

Reggie Davani opened the Olympic account after 15 minutes, with a well taken header at the far post of Taringa’s goal. Matt Heath, elevated to the senior team after a good cameo performance against Brisbane City, and Frank were causing Taringa headaches down the flanks as Olympic were opening up Taringa’s defence. Olympic went two goals ahead when ex Taringa player, Brad Lacey was fouled in the Taringa box to claim a penalty for the visiting team. Lacey converted the spot kick to allow Olympic to begin controlling the game.

Taringa were reduced to 10 players after 20 minutes when one of their players maliciously stomped on Hyuk Su Seo in the middle of the park.  With Taringa down to 10 players, the game began to open upon up and Olympic was creating more and more chances to further their well earned lead.

At half time Olympic were deservedly winning 2 nil.

The second half was much the same. Olympic began controlling the game from the kickoff and causing the Taringa defence massive headaches. Further goals to Davani, Panic, and Seo took Olympic’s lead to 6 by the middle of the second half.

Taringa suffered another setback when their best player Gottormson went off injured. Further goals to Michael Butters, Andrew Oar and another to Reggie Davani capped off a workman like effort by Olympic.

It was a much better performance by Olympic and the win will help their confidence as they take on Capalaba next Saturday night at John Fredericks oval at 5pm.

All in all, today’s games at Taringa were very successful for Olympic. The Olympic Youth Division 1 side defeated Taringa’s under 21 side 4 nil, while Olympic’s Reserve Grade side drew 5 all in an exciting game.
