Olympic began its Brisbane Premier League season with a disappointing loss to traditional rivals Brisbane City with a score line of  4-2. In a game of two halves, the boys from Goodwin Park failed to show up and play in the first 45 minutes of their round one game.

Brisbane City took full advantage of the lack- lustre opening from their opponents with Evan Papadopoulos creating havoc with  Olympic’s defence. Within 25 minutes, Olympic had conceded two goals to the joy of the Italian supporters.

It wasn’t until the start of the second half that Olympic began to play. A Bobby Hamilton tirade woke the team from their slumber and they finally began to play. Olympic dominated the majority of the half trying to get back into the game. This left their defensive line thin and a quick counter attack from City punished  Olympic further. By the 60th minute, Olympic found themselves 3 goals behind.

The injection of speedy youngster Matt Heath changed Olympic’s fortunes. His pace and ball control mesmerised the City defence and within a few minutes of his entry into the game, Olympic pulled two goals back – one to Heath and a second to Alex Panic. Olympic again piled on the pressure but again suffered another attack from City. Exposed at the back because Olympic were pushing for an equaliser, Julian Zullo pounced on a loose ball to snatch a fourth for City.

Although down by two goals Olympic continued to apply the pressure and push forward  to get another goal and perhaps snatch an equaliser themselves but to no avail. Eventually time beat them and the Hellas Azzuri shield was finally in the hands of Brisbane City.

Best players on the park were Evan Papadopoulos and Alex Davani for City and Matt Heath for Olympic.

Olympic  play Taringa Rovers away on Sunday ( 28th Feb ) at Jack Speare Park. Kickoff at 4pm.
