Brisbane Olympic FC Club President, Peter Ioannidis is pleased to announce the signing of long time target of the Yeronga based club: Evan Papadopoulos from Veto League rivals Brisbane City.
I asked the Olympic President, if you’ve been chasing Evan for a while, why does he sign now?
"Evan has resisted the approaches in the past, but he believes, it’s the right time to make a change for him and he was impressed with the setup and the future goals of our club."
The supporters must be happy with a very Greek name on the team sheet in the near future?
"There is a buzz around the club and the supporters. Everybody seems to be talking about it. It’s all positive at the moment around the club and the team. I have no doubt the Olympic fans will get behind Evan and support him from the outset"
He really does add to an already impressive playing squad.
"Papa brings a proven goal scoring record with him and the fact he is prepared to fight for his spot in the starting lineup, we believe will make this a great move for all concerned.
Bobby must be very happy?
"Of course Bobby’s happy, he’s a great addition to the team, but Bobby’s been more impressed with his ability and commitment at training. No one gets a free run in Bobby’s team, so he’ll have to keep working hard and earn his spot, just like everybody else."
Papadopoulos brings some new options to the side?
"First and foremost he’s a goal scorer and a very good one at that. But as you say he brings another option from set moves, free kicks, corners and the like. He has a fantastic left foot and close control, he can hold the ball up if necessary, he’s mobile and makes intelligent runs as well as being deceptively quick. Add to this he has great vision and passing game and I think we have done very well to get him to the club and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship over the coming seasons.
