Men’s NPL Round 21 Preview: Olympic FC vs Northern Fury FC

Round 21 of the PlayStation Australia National Premier League Queensland.

Round 21 sees Olympic FC travel to far North Queensland to face off with Northern Fury FC at the International Park in Ayr on Saturday 12th August at 7:00m.

Olympic will be looking to overcome their last round 3-1 defeat to Gold Coast City FC when they make the trip up to Ayr for this must win clash with Northern Fury FC. Victory will guarantee Olympic a third place finish before their final round clash with second place Brisbane Strikers.

Northern Fury will be coming into the match high on confidence after defeating the Roar Youth 5-1 at AJ Kelly Park last Sunday afternoon. Although Olympic were defeated 3-1 by Gold Coast City, they will also be high on confidence having gone toe-to-toe for the full 90 minutes with the competition leaders, only to concede a late goal which sealed the victory for Gold Coast City.

The previous meeting between the two sides finished 1-1 at Goodwin Park in round 10 of the PlayStation Australia National Premier League. The meeting was a physical contest between two red hot sides which saw a red card for Northern Fury and two goals within two minutes of each other. Fury opened the scoring in the 73th minute before Costa Psaros struck for Olympic in the 75th minute. Olympic continued to press for the rest match after Northern Fury were devoted to 10 men in the 80th minute yet were unable to score with the match finishing 1-1.

Trailing final round opponents, Brisbane Strikers by six points with two games remaining, Olympic will look to rise to the next level to ensure a minimum third place finish and a finals birth.

Olympic FC ‘Player to Watch’: Costa Psaros – Psaros’ pace and footwork will challenge the Fury defence line as Olympic look to assert their ascendency on the match. Expect Psaros to finish at every available opportunity and get himself on the scoresheet.
